Monday Motivation: You Are Loved!

I am still a young adult. Regardless of being married 5 years and having a 3 and 1 year old, I am still only 24 years old. It hurts my heart to hear about how many people that I grew up with have passed away. Accidents, victims of violence, and death by suicide have been the result of many people my age. Accidents are going to happen unfortunately and I cannot do much to prevent that. Yet I want to speak both to anyone struggling with rage/anger, as well as anyone struggling with depression.

You are loved.

Man or woman. White, black, brown, blue, or any other color. Regardless of you gender, race, or anything else, you are loved. You are important and were created for a purpose.

For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Psalm 139:13-4, NRSV

God created you personally and has known and loved you since before you were born. We are told that God is love and we can know true love through knowing him.

God is love and he loves you.

I know many people reject God, but so many of us reject God because of the church, not because of who God is. We reject God because of pain suffered at the hands of men and women who are supposed to be leading and loving as Christ loved us. Church leaders are broken just like anyone else and at times do fall short and I want to apologize on their behalf. Jesus tells us we should be known by our radical love because of the radical and relentless love that God has shown us through Jesus Christ.

Hurt people hurt people

I know that sounds funny, but people who are hurting will often times hurt those around them as an attempt to make themselves feel better. It does not work, nor does it make much sense, but it happens all the time.

So if you are struggling with rage and anger because of past hurt, you are loved deeply by God. God also loves that person who is the object of your pain and anger.

And if you are struggling with depression, you are deeply loved by God as well.

Mental illness is a real thing and is often times also needs a licensed professional for help. Seek help if this is you. Many local churches also offer counseling as well in many different forms – lay counseling, pastoral counseling, and many have licensed counselors on staff or that they can refer you to.

You are not alone.

People are there wanting to help you and love you. God loves you. I love you. Regardless of how it may often seem, you are loved and you do matter.

Finally, here is another place you can contact for help as well. If you are ever feeling alone and need someone, call 1-800-273-8255

Finally, brothers and sisters in Christ. Let us join in prayer that we can be the hands and feet showing the love of Christ to the world. That the church stops being a place that causes so much hurt and pain and can begin being a place of love, warmth, and welcoming. A place where people know they can go to when they are feeling broken and can be shown the same love that we have been shown and are called to show. Let us join in prayer that people can come to know God and the love he has for us in a deep and personal way.

Let us love, because God has loved us.
